Berberis can be deciduous or evergreen shrubs with spiny shoots bearing simple, often spine-toothed leaves, and small yellow or orange flowers in axillary clusters or racemes, followed by small berries. Short description
A spiny, deciduous shrub about 1m or more tall, initially columnar, but spreading with age. The foliage is dark red-purple, turning red in autumn, and the red-tinged, pale yellow spring flowers are followed by small red berries in autumn
